Latino Services Responding to the request of community leaders and recognizing the need to serve Spanish speaking members of our community, the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis center began a multi-faceted program to serve the Latino Community in 1991. The Education and Latino Services Coordinator ensures all RCC services are provided in Spanish, and works to involve a diverse community in every aspect of the Center.

Education and Prevention The Center provides educational programs in both Spanish and English to schools, community agencies, service groups, churches, corporations and other requesting services. A 145 page adolescent sexual assault prevention curriculum is actively used and distributed nationwide. The Community Education and Latino Services Coordinator coordinates Speaker's Bureau Members to assist in presentations and schedules appropriate trainers and speakers as needed.

Self-Defense Classes A certified self-defense instructor provide classes taught in both Spanish and English to women and children. Classes designed for people with special needs are arranged.

Training and Inservices The Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center offers specialized training to law enforcement agencies, medical personnel, educators, counselors and social service providers. The Crisis Intervention Hotline training and Inservice Coordinator provides training for voluntees who after training are certified by the state of California to provide sexual assault counseling services. Counselor/advocates participate in additional training throughout their involvement with the Center.
